ORGL 605 - Imagine, Create, Lead
My Course experience
As the first immersion experience I had in the ORGL program, 605 made a large impact on me early in the program. Experiencing concepts like The Productive Zone of Disequilibrium and hearing from community leaders take about place and belonging was incredibly impactful. Even thought the immersion took place virtually, the connection and active learning with other students in real time was very fruitful towards my development as a leader. It began relationships with other leaders in the program that have continued to grow throughout my time in the program.
Course Takeaways
-
Immersion
This was my first immersion and my first real connection with those also in the program. The connection experienced with others, even though it was virtual, was truly a great experience. I forged relationships with others that continued through my time in the program.
-
The Productive Zone of Disequilibrium
One of the concepts that was immediately helpful for me in my growth as a leader was the concept of the Productive Zone of Disequilibrium. The idea that there is a “sweet spot” for change and growth and as a leader it is our job to maintain a temperature in which people are not too comfortable but also not too hot that the situation becomes intolerable.
-
Seeing and Seeing again
As a leader I need to be open to growth and change. I can’t only be set in only the way I see it. I need to be open to other’s perspectives as well as showing to see from a new perspective. The idea of the dance floor versus the balcony reinforced this principle in my leadership.
